About

Welcome to I Gotta Shine

This blog has gone through several iterations since it launched in August 2011. It started shortly before my 29th birthday, when I dreamed up a list of 30 goals to accomplish before I turned 30. This blog was supposed to chronicle my progress on those goals.

That fell by the wayside, leading to unfocused posts about anything and everything that crossed my mind.

A few months later, I left my hometown and moved to Seattle, opening the door for new adventures and fun.

The move finally helped me figure out what this blog should focus on: my effort to live life to the fullest. In a sense, that’s been the recurring theme since the blog’s inception. It’s all about me trying to “shine” — hence the name.

Life’s too short not to live, so why not make the most of it? There’s too much awesomeness out there for us to spend our lives perpetually at home, watching TV and spending hours on YouTube. (Then again, if “watching TV” means “watching ‘Breaking Bad’ …”)

Here you’ll find posts about the cool and fun stuff I do and see, along with some insights or thoughts that you (hopefully) haven’t read a million times elsewhere.

  1. You did a post about Poutine. I am a Quebecoise in exile here in Oregon, and missing on poutine. Where can I find a decent one? Any food cart in Portland? Thanks.
